It is very apparent that there is a lot of sexism in many different fields in the world today and this is seen in the careers of many physicists. The articles we read for class this week showcased just how male dominant the field is one female physicist stated that the lab is totally male run. This systematic sexism is very apparent in the way that audiences and the world in general deals with female scientists. https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/moderator-interrupts-female-physicist-veronika-hubeny_us_593a3153e4b0c5a35c9e0d81 . This article is one example of how people try to not take women seriously. Veronika Hubeny, a physicist who is now a professor at UC Davis, was the only woman on a panel discussing universal concepts. The host made it a point to not talk to her and when he finally did address questions about her work, he kept cutting her off and not taking her seriously. This mansplaining was very apparent and even prompted someone in the audience to get up and scream to let her be heard. These atrocious behaviors are very common in educational environments as people feel that men are entitled to these roles and women aren’t. As a result, obviously women will feel less motivated to pursue a career if they are not socialized to think that they can pursue something like that. Society has to progress to a point to allow for men and women to be on an equal playing field in terms of fighting for a career.
