Time
So many people claim to not have enough time to do certain things, but a lot of people fight to not become idle in their life. It is crazy to think that invention like the phone, railways, mail, and things of the like has shaped our sense of time. Whether you’er waiting on a phone call or trying to get somewhere or something in as little time as possible, it all comes down to wanting instant relief from the discomfort of waiting. So much of technology is figuring out way to do things faster in order to the really “important” stuff in life…idealy. In the book “The acceleration of life in Digital capitalism” by Judy Wajcman, I was intrigued by the concept of technology. Technology is suppose to free up time, but in today’s world it seems that it is taking up time and the discussion of whether technology is enslaving or liberating comes to surface.
I have notice people of all ages speaking of detoxing from social media in order to be more present in everyday life. I myself have done this and it is truly impacting because you begin to notice how thoughtlessly you constantly scroll through your smartphone and this made me think about how we have so much technology in the palm of our hands for no good reason. It is not technology’s fault since humans are creatures of habits, but some technology that is consumed by the public has just become another way to be distracted. Technology was meant to make living better, but so many people are just viewing it from a screen instead.
