Trump must be removed IMMEDIATELY

Set aside for a moment the numerous (and they are numerous) reasons that Trump should (and probably will) be impeached and convicted, if he does not resign first. Set aside the illegal and racist travel ban. Set aside the willful hampering of the federal government’s obligations to federal statutes and the Constitution by way of failing to nominate or appoint necessary staff and by rolling back any policy or regulation whose provenance was one Barack Obama (*cough* he’s racist *cough*). Set aside the flagrant and disturbing impulses, goaded by the sycophants surrounding him, that rule his day-to-day dismantling of American norms and ideals and empowerment of authoritarian, racist, xenophobic, and ill-informed parasites of our republic. Set aside the treason that led to his inauguration. Set aside everything that is wrong and damaging and infuriating (hint: it’s everything). Everything set aside? Okay…
The pardon power was not intended to be used like this
Trump must be removed immediately, right fucking now, because, although it’s not yet super apparent, he has effectively told the judicial and legislative branches to go fuck themselves. That is the very major implication of his very-hinted-at-and-just-announced pardon of Joe Arpaio.
I’m not an attorney or an expert in constitutional law, but I can tell you that the pardon power granted to the president in the Constitution was never intended to be used in this way (I won’t discuss the dubious nature of Ford’s pardon of Nixon here). The pardon power was intended as a check on inevitable miscarriages of justice. You need only peruse the list of people pardoned by former presidents to see this: people wrongfully convicted of crimes they didn’t commit, people imprisoned for ridiculous mandatory minimum sentences, etc.
This kind of pardon says court injunctions, the Constitution, and federal law mean nothing
This pardon is different. It is a gross abuse power that, if anyone in the judicial or legislative branches is paying attention right now, must be immediately stopped, or, failing that, the president must be removed.
The pardon of a government official who was rightfully convicted of violating a court order to cease and desist his enthusiastic violation of the Constitution and people’s constitutional rights is beyond the pale. It is an unmistakable signal to those who must swear an oath to the Constitution that you can willfully violate and subvert the Constitution and federal law with impunity.
A federal court’s injunction now means nothing. A constitutional restriction or interpretation now means nothing. Federal statute enacted by Congress now means nothing.
The president will just absolve you of your constitutional sins, provided you’ve done something of which he approves, and he has your loyalty. Kiss the ring.
There’s still time. Get this motherfucker out. We will regret not doing it.
