A poem of dreamtime flying, corresponding to the oral cues and illustration of John M., 3rd grade, Poets-in-the-Schools.

John remembered having his tonsils out,
and hoped it all had meaning.
⠀⠀At the clinic they gave him a shot
⠀⠀and some special gas for dreaming.
⠀⠀⠀⠀Soon he was floating in the air,
⠀⠀⠀⠀could see the ceiling, the bright light there,
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀and the doctor floating alongside.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀When John started to wake, with a big headache,
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀the nurse near the door was asking, More?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀The doctor said No. Then he told John, Go . . .
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀back . . . to sleep . . . to . . . sleep . . .
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀John’s eyes got heavy, he was hypnotized.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀When he did wake later in bed,
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀he hesitated. What does reality mean?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀He could not separate
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀the seeming from the dreaming.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
