Antics of Dream Flyers

Emphatic

--

A poem of dreamtime flying, corresponding to the oral cues and illustration of James J., 3rd grade, Poets-in-the-Schools.

Above the world, without a care,
James is flying without wings.
He flits over to see his dog Fritz,
Rolling and pawing on air.

James says, “Sit!” and Fritz sits.
Then James sits, cross-legged, on air.
But Fritz has fits just sitting there.
“Okay, have it your way. Go, boy, go!”

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Fritz scans above and below.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀With leaps and bounds
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀he explores acres of sky,
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀and lifts a leg to each cloud passing by.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Abruptly, Fritz calls it quits
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀when he hears a beeping sound * *
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀It’s the alarm * * breaking the charm,
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀forcing the flyers to the ground.
