Frantic
A prose poem of dreamtime flying, corresponding to the oral cues and illustration of Amy S., 5th grade, Poets-in-the-Schools.
Amy and her whole family — Dad, Mom, Lisa, Jim, and Billy — were at a carnival, swinging so high their breaths became steam. It was like a bottled-up snow scene. Then Amy fell off the swing and, with no one to help, she had to try flying. The air was as cold as a blizzard. Amy screamed, but nobody heard. She sobbed, she shook, she shivered. Then everything turned bright white . . . It was the overhead light and a voice repeating, “It’s only a dream, just a dream.”⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
