Horrific

A poem of dreamtime flying, corresponding to the oral cues and illustration of Keith Q., 4th grade, Poets-in-the-Schools.

Keith says, “Nightmares can be very scary.
So it’s necessary to change the plot
(sometimes a little, sometimes a lot)
and arrange for a happily ever after.

Once I heard a wolf pack baying
and saw three of them parlaying
how, when, and where to attack.
I couldn’t match their speed or power,
they ran at 30 miles per hour.

I felt their breath and thought of death.
but when they ganged up to attack,
I sprang high and began to fly . . .
Goodbye, wolf pack! Hello, sky!”
