Antler just doubled down on Australia
Antler just doubled down on the Australian market in a big way.
Since launching in Australia in March 2019, Antler has made its mark on the Australian tech startup scene. In less than two years, the local arm of the global firm has closed its first AU$46 million Fund, invested in 40 companies, and increased its headcount to 26 to support the dynamic growth of the business.
Now, the firm is announcing a substantial extension to its activities in Australia to support its mission to help entrepreneurs build global technology companies from Australia by opening its doors in Melbourne, and broadening it’s platform to support pre-existing businesses.
“Australia has been the breeding ground for some of the world’s top technology companies.”
“Australia has been the breeding ground for some of the world’s top technology companies,” says Managing Partner Bede Moore, “and with a strong and diverse entrepreneurial community, as well as over 2,000 startups from seed stage to high growth enterprise, Melbourne presents a huge opportunity for Antler to invest in and support local entrepreneurs to build a global presence from Australia.
“Already, Antler is making more early-stage investments than any other VC in the country, having grown our local portfolio to 40 companies in just two years, and in addition to that more than 75% of our companies raise third party capital within six months of our Demo Day — demonstrating the strength of the products, market fit and teams being built with Antler.”
In the period since June 2019, Antler Australia has attracted nearly 5,000 applications and worked directly with more than 250 entrepreneurs. In June, the local firm launches its fifth Australian cohort, and for the first time will have a presence in Melbourne.
Antler Australia has also beefed up its local operations over the last six months to bolster firms expansion. This has included hosting the firm’s global technology team, led by former Blackrock VP of Engineering, Harini Janakiraman, and the launch of Antler Launch Academy, an online educational play that aims to provide aspiring entrepreneurs with the tools and knowledge to prepare them ahead of starting a business.
