Our story begins in 1899 when our great-great-grand founding father, Sheikh Bagh Ali was a clockmaker in Calcutta, British India (now Kolkata, India), and electricity generation and distribution came to the Indian sub-continent.

Sheikh Bagh Ali closed his business of clock making and joined CESC (Calcutta Electricity Supply Company) to learn the new technology. Ever since that day, following the “like father, like son” engineering tradition, Anwar Engineering was founded in 1925 at Ferozepur, British India specializing in Electric Motor Rebuilding.

After independence in 1947, the family migrated to Lahore, Pakistan and the business was later renamed Anwarson in the 1970s as an engineering workshop in the city of Multan, Pakistan.

As we head toward 100 years of engineering excellence, we have further diversified into Research and Development with a primary focus on software, electronics, electrical, telecommunications, mechanical, chemical, solar and renewable energy, consumer lighting products, electric vehicles, aerospace, and civil engineering.

Now being led by 4th generation of engineers’ family to meet the needs and challenges of the 21st century.

AARPL (Anwarson Advanced Research Projects Laboratory) is tasked with the mission of carrying the legacy of engineering excellence for the next 100 years.

The laboratory is located in Lahore, Pakistan to further the ideology of developing technology and intellectual property to fuel businesses and job creation for the youth of Pakistan in line with the vision of our founding fathers that came to Pakistan in 1947 with dreams for a prosperous and emerging Pakistan.

The author is Chief Technology Officer at AARPL and is the 4th generation of the engineers’ family.
