Butter-White was in a terribly bad mood. Her wings were so plain and colourless.

“Would I ever get a friend?” Butter-White doubted. She watched the other butterflies thinking there was no way to fit in.

She looked longingly at butterflies who were so colourful that they looked so attractive with dots, patterns and exciting designs on their wings. The more colour she saw, the sadder she felt.

She hid behind a tallgrass when others came flying closer to her. She was alone most of the time because she was hiding behind grass or a plant or a flower on seeing other butterflies.

One day she saw two kids playing under a tree. They were speaking louder about butterflies and colours. Curiously, our Butter-white hid behind a small plant to overhear what they were talking about.

“I love blue butterflies”, Ashlet said.

“I love the yellow ones”, Rainbow replied.

“The multicolour butterflies are so awesome!”, Ashlet exclaimed.

“The Black, Red and White cuties are majestic”, Rainbow added.

Butter-White felt hurt listening to them talking about colours.

She peeked to see what those human kids were up to. They were busy drawing and painting butterflies. She felt more unhappy than ever, knowing that even humans like only colourful butterflies.

When she peeked further to see what the human kids were doing, to her surprise, they weren’t there. They had gone to collect flowers in the nearby garden.

The girls had left their drawing books, pencils and colours under the tree. She flew to take a closer look of their drawings. A breeze came by, and Butter-white was landing splat in the picture.

All of a sudden, Butter-white’s wings turned colourful. She thought she looked magical. Now she felt more confident. The colourful wings of hers were so attractive.

She was flying around the garden happily. She suddenly heard voices coming from behind. Every one admired it. The insects. The animals. The people.

“WOW, I found a butterfly princess!” Huey butterfly exclaimed.

“Is she the Princess of this butterfly land?”, Terquina butterfly said.

“I’ve never seen such colours in my life!” said Yellobella butterfly.

Butter-white heard more Ohs and Ahs. She was really happy. She never imagined that she would be accepted into the butterfly clan. She wanted to speak to them all now.

But sadly, she was super-happy that she failed to notice a tiny active fountain on her way. The water splashed on her, and the colours got washed off. She turned white again. The butterfly felt embarrassed and flew away. She hid under a clover leaf. She couldn’t lift her head to face others.

But to her surprise, she heard more WOWs and AWWWs than before. She turned her head in disbelief to see what’s wrong.

“How magical! Never have I seen such white wings in my life”, Yellobella butterfly sighed in astonishment.

“I am sure she is the princess of our butterfly land”, Bluey butterfly said.

“I love her pure whiteness”, Redinna butterfly told her friends.

Butter-white heard even more compliments from others; she saw herself now. She realized that she looked pristine white and pure.

She thought to herself, “I wish I had a friend.” As if her wish came true, all the other insects came closer. They made her a tiny crown with pretty flowers and small leaves.

How wrong she was! Being colourless is not a personality flaw. If we love ourselves, others will love us too.

Radiate confidence to attract others; radiate love to get it reflected on you doubly.

Butter-white never imagined that she would be this happy in her life.

All the insects came to her and said, “Can we call you by the name Princess White?”

“Sure! Thank you.” Princess White glowed happily.

Every bug in the garden had become her friend.

She was beautiful just the way she. was.
