Ever wonder how some solo bloggers grow their blogs to six or seven figures without building a team?

How do they manage to post several guides per month, promote them and engage with their audience? It disturbed me until one of my writer friends shared the secret sauce.

She gave me the tricks the top 1% of bloggers use to build a solid blogging routine. I implemented her advice, and it transformed my approach to blogging.

You can also hit your goals if you follow those nuggets of wisdom which I’ll reveal here. Let’s discuss ways to create a good blogging habit.

Write without setting conditions

Blogging is 80% writing and 20% doing blogging-related jobs. You will build your blogging momentum the more you write and publish your work.

So, never set any conditions when it comes to writing. Stop waiting for the perfect time to write blog posts. Don’t wait to get inspiration to create.

Instead, write regularly. Show up even when you don’t feel like it. Create content anywhere and at any time. Blogging will become second nature for you.

Focus on one blog (here’s why)

Many bloggers experience the shiny object syndrome. They neglect their current goals and start pursuing new profitable blogging ventures.

Avoid that path like a plaque. You will lose focus if you work on several blogs.

Instead, shift your attention to one blog first. If you’ve picked a financial niche, grow the site before launching a new one. You will make a huge progress than entrepreneurs running multiple blogs.

But if you prefer to grow several blogs annually, hire freelancers to work for you.

Start Small

Building a solid blogging habit begins with doing simple tasks well. You must hit small blogging goals to achieve the big ones.

Take baby steps. Complete the small jobs like writing your target word counts, publishing the unfinished drafts, etc. Here’s a practical example of starting small:

If you’d like to write 1000-word blog posts without struggling, start with doing 300, or 500-word guides. Once you’ve built your writing confidence, you will finish 800 and 1000 words effortlessly. That’s real growth.

Hang out in the right places

There’s power in chilling with motivated bloggers. If you network with them, you will feel motivated to build a profitable blog. You can copy their unique processes to hit your blogging goals.

Here are some cool places to find and connect with like-minded bloggers:

  • Medium publications like The Writing Cooperative. Follow the writers who post good content consistently.
  • Blogging communities. Check out communities like r/blogging on Reddit. You might get an accountability partner to keep you on your toes.
  • LinkedIn. Connect with successful solo bloggers. Save the cool blogging tips they share.

Pro tip: Test multiple blogging hacks the pros use, then steal the ones you like.

Set such long-term Blogging goals

Goal-setting helps us take massive action. You will get the psyche to grow your blog if you set and think about your long-term goals. Why you did you start your blog? What do want to achieve with it?

Here are some examples of concrete blogging goals:

  • Get 10,000 blog visitors after eight months
  • Make my first $1000 blogging after 12 months
  • Reach 10,000 readers annually
  • Grow my email list to 1000 subscribers.

Write down the goals you’d like to achieve within a given timeline and pin it on your desk. Read them aloud when you don’t feel like blogging. The adrenaline rush you will get from envisioning your dreams coming to reality will push you to keep grinding.

Celebrate your victories

Every little blogging breakthrough matters, whether publishing your drafts, hitting weekly word counts, etc.

Reward yourself for smashing your goals. You can take yourself out, or buy yourself lovely presents.

Think of an excellent way to thank yourself. It will motivate you to keep going.

Confront perfectionism head on

Perfectionism hinders your progress. It makes you publish a few guides, hence you lose motivation to blog.

So drop being a perfectionist today. Don’t kill yourself editing your posts 100 times before publishing. Instead, publish your articles when they’re good enough.

Do this if you’re struggling with perfectionism:

  1. Write your first draft
  2. Pass it through Grammarly to find and fix typos
  3. Edit your guide
  4. Let it rest for a day
  5. Re-edit your article and publish it ASAP

Note: Your guides will never be 100% perfect. But you can always edit them again and again.

Plan like a pro

Top bloggers are good planners. Organizing your work will help you get the job done without overthinking. For instance, if you plan your daily tasks well, you will begin writing when a new day comes.

Also, consider breaking down your jobs into manageable chunks. For example, you can create content from Monday to Thursday then publish your posts over the weekends. Having such a fun schedule will make you enjoy blogging.

Ask for help — you need it

The most productive bloggers don’t do everything alone. They seek help from experienced freelancers. And that’s the best thing to do.

Hire experienced freelancers to help you grow your blogging business. Here are some tasks you should delegate:

  • Editing
  • Content formatting and uploading
  • Guest posting
  • Keyword research

You will complete the blogging tasks above without actively doing them, freeing up your time to focus on your strengths.

Take a break — it’s healthy!

You need a break from work to refresh your soul and avoid blogger burnout. Don’t kill yourself with doing writing and blogging tasks. They will always be waiting for you the next day.

I prefer you set aside your rest days. You can take a full break on Friday and Saturday to enjoy fun activities like long walks, hitting the gym, or interacting with your family. You will miss writing for a while, then get back to work feeling reenergized.

Time to build a solid blogging habit

Many people think successful bloggers use a secret formula to grow profitable blogs. The truth is they have none.

Top bloggers work smart. They create a good blogging routine then stick to it and grind consistently. It’s that simple.

I’ve mentioned the hacks the bloggers use. Pick the ones you like from my list, then test them. You’ll identify at least one habit that will work best for you. It might be the game-changer you’ve been waiting for.
