Stop Saying I Can’t Earn Money From Writing

I have read many posts saying new writers shouldn’t think of earning money from writing Medium. They say we should keep writing and focus on that alone.
Why can’t new writers earn money?
I remember when I started my business a few years ago. Within a few days I earned money from it despite being new.
Writing is different, no doubt. Yet they’re all businesses at the core.
Can you earn money from writing online?
Writing is like other businesses.
To earn from a new business, you need exposure to an audience. An audience that will trust you and want to pay for your services.
If somehow you connect with this audience, you can earn money from writing online.
Yet anyone can earn money from writing online.
My first writing job on Upwork was from a client who didn’t mind working with a new writer. She saw a sample of my fiction writing, she liked it and gave me the job.
Earning money as a writer sometimes isn’t about experience. Call it a fluke if you want because I still think that was what mine was.
Writing is not a get-rich-quick scheme.
Even if it were, it’s a get-rich-quick-with-plenty-of-work scheme.
A business usually takes time to grow. People have to be familiar with your products or services. And you have to earn their trust. They have to know that you’re good at what you do.
So give yourself time while searching for opportunities.
Nothing is set in stone.
Sometimes it’s not only about the effort. You need trust. You need to believe those efforts will bear the results you want.
Don’t let anyone make you feel bad because you’re a little greedy and want to earn some money.
Heck, everyone wants money.
Who knows, that greed might be the motivation you need to push your writing farther.
