Using AI to Replace Myself
Poetry and art through the eyes of artificial intelligence.
With all the excitement around ChatGPT and Midjourney, it was only a matter of time before I began to explore it to see what the fuss was all about. I wrote a few lines of despairing poetry and gave ChatGPT a chance to “make this poetry better”, and here’s the result.
Darkness and coldness, my constant friends,
Contradiction and I, our story never ends.I’m always dissatisfied with the way things are,
Gloom and doom seem to never be too far.But joy, oh joy, seems out of reach,
Although within grasp, I fail to breach.Who is worthy enough to rid me of my darkness?
Or will I consume their brightness, leaving them as mere embers, lifeless? The sun now shines so bright and hot,
But still, I feel like I’m in a lonely spot.To make this poem better, I must take a leap,
And let go of my fears and insecurities deep.I’ll reach out to those who shine so bright,
And hope their light will guide me through the night. For only then, can I find true peace,
And let go of this darkness that I just can’t release.
It rhymes too much for my liking; I lean towards blank verse. It doesn’t sound like me because I would never write this, which confirms my belief that AI is not for me. At least on the writing front. How will it peer into the depths of my soul and bring forth the book that lurks in the shadows? It can’t.
Interestingly enough in my first attempt I wrote “make it better”, and ChatGPT tried to make me feel better. It was rather sweet. Here’s part of the response it generated to my despairing poem.
It sounds like you’re experiencing some conflicting emotions and struggling with finding joy and happiness in your life. It’s understandable to feel lost and uncertain at times, but it’s important to remember that you have the power to change your circumstances and find fulfilment. Ultimately, finding happiness and joy is a journey that takes time and effort, but it’s worth it. Don’t give up on yourself or the possibility of a brighter future. Keep reaching out and seeking help when you need it, and remember that you are capable of creating a fulfilling and joyful life for yourself.
Let me know what you think while I continue my struggle with writing, flaws and all.
