In today’s world, social media has afforded everyone with an internet connection an unbelievable opportunity to connect with anyone that they want to connect with. Ministry is no exception to this rule. The purpose of the church is to reach the world with the news of the gospel and to disciple them in the ways of the Lord. Social media lends itself perfectly to this goal. However, like any relationship you attempt to form, whether on social media or otherwise, a consistent presence is key. Consistently reaching out and interacting with the people you hope to effect is priority one. In the next few paragraphs, I am going to talk about a few way to consistently engage your social media audience and increase interactions on your churches facebook page. We will look at three things that your church should post to facebook weekly.

A Conversational Post

As important as it is to reach out to your audience, it is just as important for them to reach back. Relationships, even over the internet are built by two-way conversations. The goal is not simply to be seen but to interact. Post something that solicits a response from your audience. One of the easiest ways to do this is to ask a question. Simple questions like “What was your favorite point in last week’s message?” or “How can we pray for you?” are perfect ways to get your audience talking.

What is important to remember is that you are starting a conversation. Don’t simply put the question out there and let people respond to it. Monitor the post and talk to people. Encourage the followers of your page to talk to one another while being present and representing your ministry.

An Invitational Post

Social media is an amazing way to keep people up to date on what is going on in the life of your ministry. Use it to inform people of what the church is up to. Putting information out about what sermons are on the horizon, what special events are coming up, and stories of what is happening among the people of the church are great posts that keep people engaged. Invite people to be a part of what is happening.

You can step us this invitational style posting with Facebook advertising in order to target your audience based on what events you are trying to get out there and the specific demographics that are likely to attend. We don’t have time to go into depth on Facebook advertising, but it is a very powerful tool for promoting your next event.

An Educational Post

Social media provides a great opportunity to offer something of value to your audience. Post something that teaches and disciples the people following your ministry on social media. There are a ton of ways you can provide this kind of value.

A short video clip of one of the main points from the previous weekend’s service
A short 5-minute video devotional
A link to the latest blog post from your church
A link to any blog post that you feel will benefit your audience
A podcast

You really can come up with just about anything. The idea is simply to post something that will benefit and/or encourage your congregation. The Bible is full of valuable teaching. Decide how you would like to present it and use social media to deliver it.

In the world of social media, consistency is key. Take these ideas and any others that you may have and create a content calendar. Decide when you will post what types of content and be consistent. Make sure that your audience can rely on hearing from you on a regular basis. This will help build your community, your congregation, and the kingdom.
