You know that good old saying, “One day your life will flash before your eyes, make sure it is worth watching”?

I believe in a life worth living.

I want to wake up to every new dawn and be so enthused and excited about the day that is to unfold before me.

I want to live a life that does not make my body ask for five more minutes of sleep when I open my eyes in the morning, but makes me jump out of bed because boy the reality is way better than even my wildest dreams!

And for this, over and over and over there has been fresh starts.

Fresh starts are not always about packing up your stuff and moving to a country where nobody knows you — although they are my favorite kind!

Fresh starts are about making a decision to do something that you have not done before.

Taking one step outside of your comfort zone even if every nerve in your being asks you not to. Trying a new genre of movies or books. Starting that new blog you always wanted to. Trying new food. Wearing an outfit that felt a little out of your style but just looked too pretty. Making the first move.

It’s about taking to a nice stranger, doing an act of kindness without expecting anything in return, taking that solo trip you always wanted to take, setting up a goal in life and working towards it until you actually realize it!

I’ve had more fresh starts than I could count in life, with a good few failures in the mix. The thing about fresh starts is that failures do not come to you as a surprise. There is always a risk when starting something fresh which you are aware of way before you dive into it, and you have the time to figure out an exit plan. And god forbid you fail miserably, you can cut your losses and move on quickly to the next.

Fresh starts are all about taking chances. And if you live your life so cautiously that you do not take a chance at anything at all, isn’t it a waste of something with such a great potential to do more, be more and get more out of?

If you are hoping for more fresh starts in this newly dawned year, let me give you one little advice that you might find useful in your journey.

YOUR HAPPINESS IS IMPORTANT.

More often than not, we have been raised and socialized in a way that somehow injects guilt into working towards your own happiness. Especially if you are a woman, the society somehow always expects you to put other people’s comfort before you. Well, eff that!

If you have the means, the smarts, the skills, and the capability take a fresh start that will make your life worth living, then go for it.

Here’s to the fresh starts.

Cheers!
