Our task must be to free ourselves by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature and its beauty.

Cherishing all life

Mother Earth: Lise Cormier’s masterpiece sets the tone for the Land of Hope theme of this year’s Mosaiculture exhibition. The mountainous matriarch’s torso rises 15 meters in a prairie where horses and bison roam. Deer amble down her outstretched arms. Her hair is planted with geraniums and petunias, her skin is santolina.

I worked on the Montreal Botanical Garden Mosaiculture Exhibition in 2013. I could not resist taking part in a competition, called Land of Hope, that used plants to create giant living sculptures. It was one of the most rewarding things I had done in many long years
