There are little ones who travel with the carnival, though not as many as in the old days. I find I like to tell them stories.

They ask for the scary tales, and sometimes it is good to offer them a warning. There are always those who do not wish children well.

The Fortune Teller

Mocking circus clown
Wide-mouthed, deadened eyes, all “fun”
What lurks inside you?

“Children, have you seen the clowns?”

“Most are sunshine jokers who long for laughs, but the whiteface makeup and bulbous noses and smiling red lips sometimes hide a darker truth.”
