Whether you are an end-user, admin, developer or a consultant — at some point in your Salesforce life you’ve had to try and map out a data model, or try and unravel an existing Salesforce org with hundreds of objects.
Salesforce has it’s own Schema Builder — but as you may have found out it starts to look a bit like spaghetti once you reach the 10+ object mark, and when you just want to work out where everything fits it gets confusing very quickly.
At Appitek we wanted to look at data models in a whole new dimension — literally! From this idea Unravel was born.
What is Unravel?
Unravel is an interactive 3D data modeling tool for Salesforce. It takes a bunch of Salesforce objects and renders them and any relationships between them in a 3D space you can interact with!
You can rotate, pan, zoom around the data model, and hover over any object or relationship to find out more information.
Creating Configurations
Unravel let’s you create ‘configurations’, which are essentially a list of objects you want to look at, plus a ‘target’ object.
This target object is used by Unravel to build the data model around, and as you can see above you can change it in real-time to change your perspective.
Once you pick the objects you want to look at, Unravel does the rest!
It’s really easy to update configurations too, so as soon as you see an object is missing, or an object has no links to anything else, you can change things out really easily to get the view you want.
You can also ‘ghost’ objects visually, so that you can bring the focus to a specific set of objects.
