Ant-Man is the 12th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and it’s a film that took a long time to get here. Ant-Man has been in development since the first Iron Man film an it was originally supposed to be directed by Edgar Wright, who is famous for his films Shaun of the Dead and Scott Pilgrim vs the World. Action scenes from the film was being showcased San Diego Comic Con, Paul Rudd and Micheal Douglas were cast in the film and excitement for the movie was building. Then, out of nowhere, a year or two before the movie was going to be released Marvel and Edgar Wright parts due to “creative difference”. That’s when fans began to become wary of Ant-Man and Marvel Studios as a whole. After watching the film I’m happy to say that Marvel won’t have anything to worry about. Ant-Man is not by any means the best Marvel film, but it’s a film that you will watch and won’t be disappointed after you leave the theater. Ant-Man is about Scott Lang, a Robin Hood-like thief who only steals in order to give back to people who are wronged in some way. After leaving prison for a crime he commit he struggles to make ends meet in order to see his daughter that lives with his ex-wife and her new husband. With one last effort, Lang decides to do a job that gets him into stealing the Ant-Man costume and meeting its original owner Hank Pym. Pym asks Lang to do a job for him and in return he will help him see his daughter again. The first thing that I noticed, and loved, about this film is how grounded this movie is. After watching Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers: Age of Ultron where the movie rely heavily on the mystic Infinity Stones, it’s good to have a film that is just a superhero origin story. Ant-Man is pitched as a lighter, more comedic film which is true. But the comedy doesn’t always hit. Paul Rudd is great for the comedy he doesn’t over due anything in the film, and there are even times during the film it felt like Rudd was trying to be a character from a Judd Apatow movie. Micheal Douglas is great as Hank Pym. I wish he was given more to work. In the film it just seems like he’s there just to tell Scott what to do and tell Lang how serious the situation they are in. The best part of the movie though is the action scenes. The action in Ant-Man is some of the best in any of the Marvel films. Seeing Scott shrink and grow back to normal size is highly entertaining and I couldn’t get enough of it. Even when he’s learning how to use the powers of controlling the different types of ants was great and I wanted to see more of it. You’ll have a good time seeing this movie as long as you lower your expectations. Don’t go into the Ant-Man thinking your going to get Guardians of the Galaxy or Captain America: Winter Soldier, and you’ll like it a lot.

3 out 5 Micheal Douglas goatees
