“People don’t know you. They know the guy in the bird suit. They know the guy who tells those quaint, slightly vomitous stories on Letterman.”

Googling “Birdman” we get the description of the film about an actor who, in order to lose the image of the superhero, presents a play in Broodway. In my opinion the film is mainly about the problems of the contemporary world. Each character shows one such a problem. Michael Keaton plays the leading role of Riggan who has not only family complication but also problems connected with his image. Sam played by Emma Stone tries to cope with her drug addiction and the past connected with her father. Edward Norton plays Mike who is shy and withdrawn every day but on the stage he is a completely different man — As he describes himself in the movie, “I don’t pretend. Not out there. Just about every place else, but never out there.”. In this movie we can also see another problems such as: the pursuit of fame, the virtual reality, mindless focusing on something, and their lack of knowlage, which is irritating.

Thanks to the amazing and long shots, we can follow the characters in one of New York theatres. We listen to theier talks in the dressing room, we play a game on the roof and together with the actors we go through the pre-release and the opening night.

At the begining I wasn’t keen on this film. I could say that I was afraid of it. However, I decided to see it again. Then I observed imprtant issues presented in it. During my first watching I didn’t see them. Perhaps I focused too much on the shots which were new to me. I concetrated mostly on Riggan who was disgusting. Now, however, I must admit this is a very good movie. I want to bow down to Edward Norton and Emma Stone for their performance. They both were nominated for Oscars, Golden Globes and Bafta awards.

“Birdman” won many awards, amonf other, for the best movie, the best director — Alejandro González Iñárritu, the best screenplay and best achievement in cinematography.

I recommend this movie and I suggest watching it from a different point of view. ☺
