Happy Halloween! This weeks’s film was initially regarded as one of the worst sci-fi horror films ever made (it later became a cult film fave) Plan 9 From Outer Space by Ed Wood. Silent Movie Theater
We will be featuring our first silent film The Hunchback Of Notre Dame (1923) starring Lon Chaney on Sunday November 13, 2016. Based on Victor Hugo’s classic novel, the story of Paris nobles and local peasants clashing is filled with romance and drama. We think if you’ve never seen a silent movie before this is the perfect way to discover the art of the silent era. The movie is available to watch free on YouTube.
Plan 9 From Outer Space (1959)
Ed Wood arrived in Hollywood with a plan to write, produce and direct movies like his idol Orson Welles. After landing a directing gig in 1953 for Glen Or Glenda which was a flop, Wood a perpetual optimist, pressed on with his filmmaking. Plan 9 is one of his most well known flops despite counting legendary (but past prime) Bela Lugosi among its cast members. It was because Plan 9 was so bad that the film acquired a cult like status among film fans in later years, something Ed Wood might have been pleased to see. Although deemed a “Golden Turkey” this film nonetheless is forever part of Hollywood film history.
