Spellbound (1945)

Dr Edwardes aka John Brown (Peck) is replacing the ‘aging’ Dr Murchison (Leo G. Carroll) at a mental hospital where Dr. Petersen (Bergman) is a psychiatrist. Dr Petersen notes Edwardes’ odd habits and increasing paranoia; Edwardes realizes he must flee. Petersen sets off to find him, learn what triggered his symptoms and try to treat his illness with the help of her mentor Dr Brulov (Michael Chekhov). Produced by David O. Selznick, the stylish film opens with a quote from Julius Caesar, includes a dream sequence designed by Salvador Dali and boasts a renowned score by composer Miklos Rozsa. Can Dr Petersen help John and, whatever did happened to the real Dr Edwardes?
