Conversations. Reviews. Stories.

The Halloween playhouse is open! First up is Roger Corman’s warped comedy combining botany and murder because, of course! What better time of year to watch a movie with a killer plant named Audrey that also has the very young Jack Nicholson in it. Scroll down for a link to see the movie free on YouTube along with a plot summary. Subscribe to the show and receive an email reminder to watch on show day at ClassicMovieSalon.com. We’ll talk about the film and go off on a tangent or two…it’s like a book club, but without all that reading. We have a great time talking about the movies we see, what we liked (or not) the performances, cats or coffee or curling. OK not curling. Anything goes — almost! Join us every Sunday.

Silent Movie Theater

We will be featuring our first ever silent film The Hunchback Of Notre Dame (1923) starring Lon Chaney on Sunday November 13, 2016. Based on Victor Hugo’s classic novel, the story of Paris nobles and local peasants clashing is loaded with drama. We believe if you’ve never seen a silent movie before this is the perfect way to discover the art of the silent era. The movie is available to watch free on YouTube.

The Little Shop Of Horrors (1960)

Shot in two days on a $28,000 budget using a set from another movie, was just one of the ways Roger Corman attained the title “King of the B movies” though he and his films eventually earned high praise. Little Shop is a not-to-successful flower store on L.A.’s Skid Row and Seymour Krelboyne was just fired for botching a job. Seymour hopes he might win his job back and save the flower shop with the plant he bred, Audrey Jr. One problem: Audrey will only grow if she is fed blood and human flesh and Seymour is feeding her people. A few locals go missing but Audrey is growing tall and the flower shop is bustling (boss is happy!) when the police pay a visit. Audrey’s appetite shows no signs of stopping. How DOES one stop a flesh eating plant? You’re going to laugh at this creepy comedy!
