The Art of Human Salvage: Interview and Review

I had the privilege of interviewing Dempsey Tillman, the director of The Art of Human Salvage and a Hollywood veteran. Click here to hear Episode 16 of the Michele the Trainer Show podcast.

He has been on the digital video crew of most of the Marvel films made in the last decade and a half and dozens of other big budget movies.

Tillman recently directed a short science fiction film, The Art of Human Salvage. It is an intense 10 minute teaser that Tillman hopes will lead to the production of a feature length film.

Starring Jamie Walters (90210, The Heights), Matt Boylan (Straight Outta Compton, Species II) and Edward James Olmos (BladeRunner, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), this intense drama is set sometime in the very near future.

The government has been replaced by “The Corporation” and self-expression has been banned. Photography and developing photos is punishable by death. When a 10 year-old boy is found in a sensitive area, it is up to Blair (Walters) to decide to free him or not.

Here are my reasons that I think everyone should see The Art of Human Salvage:

  1. It feels like a combination between The Matrix, Night Shyamalan, and even a bit of Divergent.
  2. It’s thought-provoking. It’s a unique, unsolved sci-fi mystery.
  3. Great scenes and cinematography. The scenery is excellent. In just 9 minutes, there are lots of great camera angles, cool props, and poignant scenes that leave me wanting more.
  4. The talent. The boy (Jayden Khepri) is great. Edward James Olmos is amazing in everything he does.
  5. There is a bit of wit in the film. Just a spark of humor is thrown in.
