As independent filmmakers, there are always times when juggling the different stages of production and prepping for the next film can feel overwhelming. Here’s 25 ways to get over burn out:

  1. Go for a bike ride
  2. Give yourself a day off
  3. Get some sun
  4. Do something for fun
  5. Reconnect with the reason you want to tell stories
  6. Go to the coffee shop and stare at people
  7. Go dancing and dance with strangers
  8. Have a Barbeque
  9. Go to the beach
  10. Take a train ride
  11. Go for a drive
  12. Remember that you define the meaning of your success
  13. Watch a movie
  14. Help someone else make their creative dreams come true
  15. Go to a museum
  16. Make your favorite dish for dinner (or have someone close make it for you)
  17. For once, actually take a weekend or a holiday off
  18. Turn off your smartphone and internet for a day
  19. Go for a walk
  20. Go to your favorite brunch place and treat yourself to your favorites
  21. Chocolate
  22. Listen to your favorite album
  23. Wash your dishes / pick up around the house
  24. Get lost in a book
  25. Breathe

We all have moments when our dreams seem out of reach. Have compassion for yourself, and give yourself some time off. There will always be more stories to tell when you’ve recharged.
