The photos shown above are from Carlsbad Nm and Fort Worth Texas. I use film to capture the side of life no really wants to see or doesn’t see.

Sometimes these are right in front of you, other times you have to seek them out. For instance the images of the auto parts and the TV were captured in a road side barn in Carlsbad NM. Tucked out of the way and probably have sat in the same spot for who knows how many years. They will likely be in the same spot for years to come.

The fire truck has been sitting in plain site for a few years now. People drive by it daily and really pay it no mind. This is a piece of our history, it has helped save many lives over it’s lifetime. We can’t let it be for gotten.

The Art building is the Modern Art Museum in Fort Worth Texas. If you’ve actually never got out and walked up at night to just watch the colors…..you’d never see it. I actually sat for 20 minutes watching it dim and brighten before I composed the shot.

The shot of the checkerboard is a homage to being a kid. We as adults hardly ever play checkers anymore, to consumed by technology and instant gratification. I actually took the time to play checkers that day with my son and found it quite relaxing. Sometimes we just need to stop and appreciate the simplicity of moving red and black pucks over a checker board.

Yes, all these images were taken on film. No hurry up and check the back to see if I got the shot. I had to wait for development. Which is the actual calming part. Using film actually gives you the time to interact with the environment and your subject, whether it’s a nature, objects or people. Slowing down just a little may actually help you to breathe and slow down and enjoy life for awhile.

This is my form of meditation on a daily basis. What it yours?
