Much is being made of the latest poster for Star Wars: The Last Jedi. To be more specific, much is being made of Luke’s place in it. He’s positioned in the background, looming large over the rest of the characters. His presence in the poster is reminiscent of Star Wars villains past, leading many to believe that Luke will be joining their repulsive rank. Check it out below:

Ooooh! Isn’t he imposing up there? Now check out the below collection of posters for comparison, posted on reddit in r/StarWars by TheLeprychaun.

I’m here to tell you that this villain Luke speculation is wrong. IT’S ALL WRONG. By focusing on Luke’s looming, y’all are sleeping on the real reveal: The Gray Jedi.

Now I’m going to save you the time of scrolling up and down by posting the poster again below, but this time focus on the triangle of characters at the top.

Notice that they are positioned in a pyramid, with Luke at the top, and his two pupils below. Kylo, holding a red lightsaber, represents the dark side and is positioned to one side. Rey, holding the blue lightsaber, represents the light side and is positioned to the other.

Now notice which way the lightsabers are being held. Rey’s is pointing downwards. Kylo’s is pointing upwards. The positioning of the sabers represents a downward trajectory for Rey and an upward one for Kylo, a trajectory that should (theoretically) lead them to meet in the middle of the light and dark sides, which as of now has been called The Gray Jedi in Star Wars lore.

Speaking of the middle, who’s in the middle of the poster? Luke is. Now look at him. Take your time… Now tell me, what do you see?

Just kidding, it’s my article so I get to tell you what I see, not the other way around. Look at his hood, one side illuminated with Jedi blue, the other with Sith red. Check out his beard, it’s the same thing. Heck, his WHOLE FACE IS SPLIT IN HALF.

What’s that supposed to mean? Well, I’ll point out the obvious. Luke is going to fulfill the prophecy of the Chosen One and bring true balance to the force, and he’s going to do it using his two padawan, Kylo and Rey.

Now go back and watch the trailer again and you’ll be all but convinced that the Gray Jedi are happening.

“Search your feelings, you know it to be true.”
