Window Tinting Stereotypes…

If there ever was a niche product, I would say window tinting fits the bill. When talking to people and saying I am in the window tinting industry they always seem to have a confused look on their face, like what is that? Then they’ll usually ask if we sell sound systems or lower cars. To get the idea in someones head of what window tinting is, I usually refer to the purple bubbled stuff you see on the back window of a car and then you see a light go off in their heads. Now they know what you are talking about. This purple bubbled window tint is a moving billboard advertising the failure of the products we sell. It’s like having a universal ad campaign of how much our products suck.

Check out what window tint should look like here.

What window film should NOT look like.

Technology in these films is 30 years old but you could say that it has changed and is very different than what is available today. You could also say that these films are used to protect storefronts from graffiti, acid etching, break ins, create custom designs for interior offices and even change the entire face of a building. Even after all that, I would guess that the purple bubbly stuff is what they’ll end up remembering.

If It’s Cheap, Is It Worth It?

It’s no one’s fault in particular for the common perception of the window film industry. The market makes these decisions on their own. If people are willing to buy cheap tint thinking it’s good by the dealer, then the manufacturers are going to sell it. But we all know, you get what you pay for.

Funny enough, I really don’t hate window tinting, I love it. Not like, growing up all I wanted to do was tint windows love it, but love in a sense that it’s a great business. While it can be hard to demonstrate sometimes, it’s simple and the benefits are real and can be measured. The window tinting industry may not be sexy or front page news but that’s okay. Sometimes practicality is what lasts the longest.
