Aquaria — An immersive experience
Do you know what AR is?
From Wikipedia, “Augmented reality (AR) is an interactive experience of a real-world environment where the objects that reside in the real world are enhanced by a computer”.
My team and I were supposed to work on and learn about something related to the frontend part of an application, so we decided to work on the concept of AR. We realized that, nowadays, in the collective imaginary AR is always related with visual experience. But we knew that it can be also associated to the other senses.
So we started from the idea of extending the collective AR concept, trying to find a solution that could connect the human senses in addition to the sight one, providing an immersive experience to the user.
After some meetings we came up with an amazing idea: what about an app in which we could implement also an auditory adventure?
We worked on visual and sound AR at one time, and finally we managed to create a wonderful app, Aquaria. It throws you into the magical undersea world, among colorful fishes and tens of bubbles. The user can choose the fishes he want to see, interact with them and hear them just like he were there. In the meanwhile, he can listen to a soft background music.
The app is expected to be something relaxing and exciting at the same time, perfect for those who love the sea world, but also for those who want just to learn something about it.
At the moment the app is just a prototype, but we want to work on it and finally publish it as soon as possible.
In fact, even if the app seems to be pretty simple to develop, we had to face two great problems: the plane detection and the assets. Using 3D models isn’t easy as it seems. Otherwise, no one of us was very practical with ARKit, so we had to learn about it first and then start to code. We managed to solve our issues, but surely we can improve our skills and make the app better.
If you want to support us, please download Aquaria from Testflight and send us your feedback!
