Think puzzle game anew
Have you ever taken a path, started walking and did not succeed? You continued this path until a certain point and finally realised that it was not the right decision? Yes we have, and now we will tell you our story.
Ideas as relationships
In the common imagination, ideas are often compared to pregnancy: seeing a project born and then following its growth. We think it is the most appropriate metaphor, but our first idea for us, a group of young developers at the Apple Developer Academy in Naples, more than a pregnancy it was a relationship ended badly, very badly! When you fall in love for the first time you can’t see the negative sides, the black shadows and the weak points. You are only clouded by the beauty of the new and the charm of the unknown. But when that sort of magic ends, you rush into a whirlwind of questions, dissatisfactions and fears.
Old habits or new beginnings?
This is the crucial moment in which you choose to love those black shadows or change direction because you are not ready to love those weak points. Surely the first way is the one that most people would consider being the brave one. But when the misunderstandings are too many, the dissatisfactions grow and problems of communication increase the boldest choice is to let it go and choose new things instead of frustration. And here we have chosen to change the object of our love and to start again with a new idea.
Definitely new beginnings!
We chose to start again with a new project being built from scratch, piece by piece.. and that’s how Drambol was born. Drambol is a digital and revisited board game, with a unique design inspired by the famous Bauhaus. The game experience is: relaxing thanks to the schematic shapes and variety of colors; interactive thanks to the multiplayer mode and stimulating thanks to its mathematics-based methodology.
Steal like an artist
We let ourselves be inspired by the minimalist style of the Bauhaus, the famous school of art and design that operated in Germany in the historical-cultural context of the Weimar Republic from 1919 to 1933. Our design favors linear and geometric shapes that immediately catch the eye of the user. In order to follow Bauhaus principles, we have reduced everything to the bone by focusing on numbers, shapes and colors.
How to play? Drambol is a two player game in which each player has his side to play on. There are 9 numbers on the game board. At the beginning numbers are displayed randomly on the board. The first player has to start by sliding in the card-number 0, throwing out the last card in the row. The aim is to get the highest sum on the respective side. The game continues until both players have done 4 movements. The only rule? Cards with a square shape cannot be moved out of the box!
“Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.” — Samuel Beckett
In conclusion, our path was not easy but we are happy about the result.
