With the addition of new Shortcuts options in iOS 14, changing your icons for applications is finally possible!

Custom App Icons

Steps

  1. Open the Shortcuts app.

2. Create a new shortcut using the “+” icon in the top left corner

3. Create a new action

4. In the search bar, type Open app and select the Open App action.

5. Tap Choose and select the app you want to customize. For example, Instagram or Snapchat.

6. Tap the three dots in the upper right corner. Give your shortcut a name, and tap add to home screen.

7. Next, go to the Safari app to find a new icon image. Search for anything you’d like, and be sure to add aesthetic related words if you’d like a certain aesthetic such as goth or black.

8. Go back to the Shortcuts app and select the current icon. Select Choose Photo and tap on the image you’ve downloaded. You can zoom in or out on the image. Select choose.

9. Tap Add.

Congrats! You’re finished.

Extras

The original apps can still be found, but you can store those in a folder.

The only downside to this is that the apps will open the shortcuts application prior to launching your app. I’m sure this will be changed in the near future!
