Apple fans are humming with anticipation as reports of a new AirPods 4 release continue to spread. According to reliable industry insider Mark Gurman, Apple is planning to release two new AirPods models this fall.

These new devices are expected to replace the existing AirPods 2 and AirPods 3, giving users more alternatives to meet their requirements and budgets.

Replacing older models

The current AirPods series includes the AirPods 2 and AirPods 3, which appeal to distinct market niches. While the AirPods 2 are more cheap, they miss some of the advanced capabilities featured in the AirPods 3.

The AirPods 3, on the other hand, offer a more premium experience, with spatial audio and adjustable EQ. However, with the upcoming release of the AirPods 4, both of these variants are likely to be retired.

What to Expect from AirPods 4

While specific details about the AirPods 4 are still scarce, Gurman’s report suggests that the new models will offer several improvements over their predecessors. Some of the expected features include:

Improved Sound Quality: Both the entry-level and mid-range AirPods 4 models are expected to feature enhanced audio performance, with a focus on improved bass response and clarity.

USB-C Charging: In line with Apple’s recent shift to USB-C, the new AirPods are likely to adopt this charging standard, making them compatible with a wider range of charging accessories.

Active Noise Cancellation: While the entry-level model may not include this feature, the mid-range AirPods 4 is expected to offer active noise cancellation, allowing users to enjoy their music without distractions.

Design: The overall design of the AirPods 4 is expected to be similar to the current models, with minor refinements to improve comfort and fit.

Naming Conventions

It remains unclear how Apple will officially name the two new AirPods models. Some speculate that the entry-level model might be called “AirPods Lite,” while the mid-range model could simply be named “AirPods 4.” However, only time will tell how Apple will choose to differentiate between the two.

Release Date

Apple is expected to unveil the new AirPods 4 alongside the iPhone 15 series, likely in September. This would coincide with the company’s annual fall product launch event.
