What triggers me of Steve Jobs and Apple.

We had the WWDC 2020 dates confirmed, but this year it will be the first all-online conference (hence the COVID-19 pandemic). But as an Apple fan, no greater memories goes back to the first iPhone and Macbook launch.

Yesterday I watched the launches by Steve Jobs of the first iPhone (Link) and the first Macbook Air (Link). I was so satisfied to see that the world is so excited by an “Widescreen touchscreen device”. Today, we live as if the touchscreen was there from the beginning of the world.

But there is something different than from the previous era of Apple… I noted a few things what Steve Jobs said and I started wondering: where would Apple be today with Steve? After Steve Jobs, Tim Cook was appointed as CEO, but without knowing that Apple would be a totally different company if Steve Jobs was there.

Nowadays, CEOs aren’t the most influential models to revolutionary products, but Apple’s hierarchy always represented that the CEO of the company are an influence.

Heading back to the launches, I would like to repeat Steve Jobs’ words when he launched “Multi-Touch” (basically touchscreen). He said: “Oh, a stylus right, we’re gonna use a stylus? No. Who wants a stylus? You have to get them and put them away and you’ll lose them. Yugh. Nobody wants a stylus, so let’s not use a stylus.” Obviously the interpretation of this was to pronounce the handiness of a touchable device through a finger, but he certainly made valid objections.

Now, Tim Cook launched the new iPad Pro with a stylus (Pencil) that attaches magnetically to the device. Isn’t that what Steve Jobs would’ve turn down if he was still there? Wouldn’t Steve Jobs invent an even smarter way to draw on the iPad? It still triggers me that the new iPad Pro wouldn’t look the same and would probably have better and more convenient features if Steve did it.

At the launch of the Macbook Air, Jobs welcomed Paul Otellini, Intel’s CEO, on stage. With the build of the new Macbook, Apple also asked Intel to downsize their Core 2 Duo processor to fit in the “thinnest notebook ever”. Steve Jobs also said that Apple has a very good relationship with Apple.

Obviously, times can change at Apple and Intel. The relationship between them can deafen, the deal between the two might be a bit scratchy, but… Apple are in the rumors to introduce ARM-processors of their own kind. No more Intel, no more collaborations. Apple wants to make their own processor claiming them the most powerful in the market. My possible thoughts are that Apple tries to close their Ecosystem (refer to MKBHD’s video on the ecosystem: Link). They’ll push both Windows and Intel out of the process with their new processors. No more BootCamp, which means we can’t get any Windows software loaded on Apple products.

What will be the thoughts of Apple’s interns? Will people like it if BootCamp disappears? That is big questions to mention! For me, Apple is slowly turning away from their motto “Think Different”. Apple started to look at their not-even competitors. Samsung did that, okay we’ll do it too. No more thinking different from the rest.

The other thing that was a big meme rush for me was when the iPhone 11 was launched with 3 cameras. Three uncomfortable and overloaded cameras at the back. You get to see the iPhone 5S where the camera never really scratched when you put it on a table, but now with every new iPhone, you get that extra thickness to the camera apart from the phone itself. Wouldn’t there be a smarter way to do this? I’m almost sure when Steve was there, something revolutionary would be introduced (instead of the iPhone 11 [Pro Max]).

My personal thought is that Tim Cook should be aware of the current situation and have a look at Steve’s introductions, they can revolutionize your future line-up! If Apple ever decides to get a new CEO, the ticklist should contain one item: creativity.
