Forget Apple TV+, Apple Arcade’s Got a Competitor in Netflix
Yup, it’s not just Apple TV+ going against Netflix anymore. The famous Tudum on Netflix will let you binge-watch series and movies and also bring you “free” games. Netflix mobile games are similar to Apple Arcade, allowing users access to the entire game’s content via a subscription plan without any in-app purchases. However, while Apple has added quite a few titles to Apple Arcade, Netflix currently offers just five titles.
Netflix Games can’t really compete with Apple with just five options, but we’re pretty sure they’ll add more titles. For now, the five games are available on the App Store to be downloaded separately to iPhone.
The games available now include Stranger Things: 1984, Stranger Things 3: The Game, Shooting Hoops, Card Blast!, and Teeter (Up). We might also see more games inspired by Netflix Originals in the future.
Just like Apple Arcade, Netflix Games require a paid subscription to access the content. Earlier, Netflix updated their mobile application with tabs like ‘Coming Soon’ and ‘Fast Laughs’. The former gives you a glimpse of all upcoming movies and shows, and the latter showcases funny short clips from various shows and films. The ‘Fast Laughs’ section looks pretty similar to Instagram Reels.
After mimicking IG Reels, it looks like Netflix wants to give Apple Arcade a run for its money. It makes sense that Netflix is diverging into multiple in-app features to keep its momentum going, even if that support for games is unavailable on iOS due to Apple’s strict App Store rules. Not that its content of shows and movies were lacking, but an added advantage over its competitors is always a good thing.
We can now only hope the OTT platform comes up with something along the lines of a Squid Game for its subscribers. It’s bound to be popular across devices and operating systems! Anyway, Netflix mobile games are here, and the company definitely needs to add more titles if they want to stay. Till then, the Stranger Things games look pretty fun.
