Let’s face it, we all want to be healthy, we run, we eat and we sleep. I believe one of things that keeps up healthy is being happy. Scientific studies have proven that the mind, your gut and happiness or sadness are all related. How happy you are is related to how good your health is. Happiness is linked to good health. It has been proven that having a sense of well-being can not only boost your immune system but can also, make your heart healthier and add years to your life!

How do we get happy and stay happy? We have so many things in our lives that tend to tear us down, drag us away from our families and bring more stress into our lives. How can we get from here to there? I think you need to look for and find the happy. Instead of looking for the negative look for the positive. Instead of getting angry reassess the situation and look for the humor in it.

I get it. We all need to work for a living in one way or another and we can all feel the stress of it. Let’s face it, finances stress us out. Sometimes we don’t even recall where our money even goes and that stresses us out even more. There are some really good apps that can help with money management and debt reduction. Check them out.

Find your happy place. For many, myself included it is getting out in the sunshine. Take a walk on your lunch hour, sit outside and eat. Multi-task outside. Take your laundry on your porch to fold, go through your receipts out on your deck, peel your veggies for dinner. Work does need to be done and families do need to be fed but who says you have to do it inside looking our the window? Improvise, those little chores are way better when you are in your happy place. When I have a break between my clients I will often just walk a block or two. It clears my head and gives me a better frame of mind. Studies have shown that just spending some time in the good old outdoors with nature can not only de-stress you but it also improves your focus. A little fresh air is way better than none at all.

Instead of spending all of your time indoor at the gym when it is nice, go for a run, hike, or walk outdoors. (Check out the fitness coaches at Fry Egg who can make a great work out routine for you based on your preferences.) Shaking up your fitness routine can help you burn more fat and the wind and the hills will add resistance giving you a far better workout. Playing outdoor with your kids is a great way to bring on the happy. Jump with them on their trampoline. Laughter is good medicine and great for burning calories and you will do both on the trampoline. Swinging is also a great way to burn calories, laugh, and make you more joyful.

I just read an article on how dancing has been proven to help those with Alzheimer’s or memory loss to regain memory, and dancing is fun. Who isn’t happy when they are dancing? Don’t like to dance in public? Check out online streaming classes that will get you up and moving. That is a great happy place.

Rather than dreading that ride to work, turn on the music and sing. It will do wonders for your well being and mood. Bring a beverage and a healthy breakfast and you are on you way to a winning day. Be-bop as you drive and enjoy the ride. When you get to work be prepared for the day by bringing some healthy food that you can snack on. Put it away from you so that you have to get up to get it. Scientific studies have shown us that sitting for long hours every day not only makes us lethargic, and overweight, it is more dangerous than smoking so schedule some moving time. Moving around, going for a walk or taking the stairs rather than the elevator has been proven to give you mental clarity and change your perspective. Please don’t walk to the vending machine though, those snacks are processed and full of unhealthy fats and sugar. Those foods will give you a sudden burst of energy but they will also lead to a sugar crash.

Practice healthy self talk. Be happy with who you are. Treat others with kindness and respect and you will gain respect. You can choose how you feel and how you treat others. Happiness is a choice, be happy.
