Robinhood App Made Me A Better Saver

My parents think I’m investing. I feel like I’m basically gambling…

One thing is for sure though… I’m actually saving meaningfully for the 1st time ever in my life.

I’m a 35-year-old professional in the tech industry and have done fine and dandy for the last decade of my life. I’m not rich but I’ve held several programmer jobs that have paid in those $60k-$160k ranges.

I would say I make great money but in this whole decade, I have saved very little. I’ve basically learned to spend what I make.

That changed this year, however…

This year I’ve never had so much actual money at 1 time in my life. That’s not a brag. I’m simply saying “Holy Crap… I Saved This???” and want to talk about why I think Robinhood is responsible.

3 reasons why I think Robinhood App, in particular, made this happen…

  1. The fun animations and rolling numbers are addictive to see. It’s my money rolling around in those animations and it gives me a dopamine hit better than social media. Hell, my social media use has declined significantly. Does that mean FB and IG are my gateway drugs?
  2. Daily news pulls me back in. The stories make me feel like I’m staying current in the area where my money is and I feel like I might stumble on a nugget of info that’ll influence me to put money in a particular spot that will make it grow. If I’m gonna read things on my phone… why not read things that might make my money grow? 💸
  3. Access to my money is always there. I can buy/sell stocks, or transfer money in/out of the account in a really easy way with Robinhood. I feel very confident that I can get to my money and make moves as I need.

There is this playfulness to saving in the Robinhood app. I have never felt the same thrill when I transferred money from a checking to a savings account. When I transfer funds into Robinhood, I feel very satisfied with my decision.

And then there’s the Dividend notification! What’s that!?!

Some of the stocks I own are in companies that pay a dividend. I won’t go into detail but it’s sort of like a reward for owning their stock in particular. When I receive a notification that I was just given free money from the company just for holding their stock, I get the most joy.

It’s like Delta Airlines said “Thanks for believing in us… here’s a gift!” and it just feels so good to me.

It validates my decision to save with a little monetary gift and I’m grateful.

So I will end this here by saying that Robinhood App has made saving money and investing fun and if you haven’t tried it out with even like $20, you should give it a go.

And if you do give it a go and want to also say “thanks for the fun read, Wade!”… you can use this link below 👇 to get a free stock just for signing up through the link and I believe they throw me 1 too.

I believe that notification will be just as thrilling as the dividend… maybe even more!

No pressure or anything. I didn’t write this to pitch that but I mean… it’s there if you want it.

Thanks for reading and have a wonderful day!
