A Step-by-Step Guide to Claim Your Free ANS Name Renewal
Name renewals are now live on Aptos Names, and if you registered a name at any point since launch on October 18, 2022, this guide is for you. All names come with a 1-year registration meaning that as the 1-year anniversary of your name mint date approaches, you will need to renew your registration if you want to retain ownership over your name. Names that aren’t renewed will become available to new registration.
But don’t worry; we know life can get busy and deadlines can be forgotten, so we are granting a 30-day grace period to all name owners. If your name expires, you’ll have a 30 day grace period to renew it before it becomes available for others to register.
How Renewals Work
When a name comes within 6-months of its expiration date, the name becomes eligible for renewal. Today, names can be renewed for an additional 1-year at a time.
Similar to new registrations, the pricing structure for renewals is also based on the length of the name:
- 3 characters: 20 APT
- 4 characters: 10 APT
- 5 characters: 5 APT
- 6+ characters: 1 APT
How to Claim Your Free Name Renewal
As a token of our appreciation, Aptos Names is granting you an additional 1-year of name registration for free if you registered your name on or before March 6, 2023. To access this benefit, please follow these instructions.
STEP 0: Navigate to our renewal promotion page here directly or through the banner on the Aptos Names home page.
STEP 1: Connect your wallet. Aptos Names supports many wallets, but we recommend Petra.
STEP 2: Select Domain Names.
Only names in the ‘Eligible Domains Names” list can be renewed free of charge with this promotion. If a name in your wallet is listed as ineligible, your name either:
- Was not minted on or before March 6, 2023;
- Is actively listed on an NFT marketplace and must be de-listed before it can be renewed; or
- Is a subdomain
STEP 3: Confirm Transaction.
Please make sure you have enough APT in your wallet to cover the nominal gas fee. You will be able to see your names with their new expiration dates on your account page.
This renewal can only be applied to the name(s) that were registered during this time period; it cannot be transferred to other names or between wallets. Please be sure to monitor your expiration dates to prevent losing access to your names in the future.
You are also able to renew your names through your Account page by using the actions menu associated with a given name. This is where you will go to renew names after the current promotion has ended or for any names ineligible for the promotion.
If you don’t want to renew names one-by-one, you can also renew all names expiring soon using the bulk actions menu at the top of the name table.
