How to remember everything (Review of Remembered.io)
Not everyone is born with a “good memory” and I’m certainly one of the unfortunate. What can we do? Are we doomed to a life in which we forget our girlfriend’s/boyfriend’s birthday or mom’s favourite flowers? Of course not, there are tricks to improve memorization, but what I’m going to review today is a tool called Remembered.
How I found it
It’s been two months and a half since I started using it. I had found it on littlebigdetails.com, being showcased for an interesting UX detail — if you go to the sign-up page and wait for a minute, a motivational video of Shia LaBeouf pops up encouraging you to “Do It”.
At first, I wasn’t convinced. That’s because I didn’t know how it’d integrate into my life and my workflow. So I went to the sign-up page, watched that interesting video of LaBeouf screaming at me, and closed the page.
But later, I decided to give it a try and sign up. I don’t remember exactly what made me do it, but I’m happy it happened.
How I use it
I use it to remember (duh!) things.
When I’m on my Mac, I use the Chrome extension to add things quickly. When I’m on the move, I write my thoughts in Google Keep and add them into the app when I get back to my Mac.
In the app’s settings, I chose to receive three reminders:
- 1st daily reminder at 7 am
- 2nd daily reminder at 1 pm
- 3rd daily reminder at 7 pm
What I like to remember
Ideas: When I first heard about Android Marshmallow’s Doze feature, I thought about Machine Learning. I don’t know if that’s really how it works, but the point is that I wrote that down to think about it later on. Specifically, the questions in my head were:
- Where else could I apply this optimisation?
- What else could I optimise in Android using the same principle/ML?
Advice for my future-self: In general, this includes “be wiser about something” and “don’t do that again”.
Quotes: Elon Musk is one of my favourite entrepreneurs.
Expert advice: Remembered has lots of interesting lists. Most of them contain advice from experts and successful people.
This card is from How to Win Friends & Influence People. You can see my own lists on my profile page.
My stats
So far I’ve remembered 62 facts. Only 10 left, and look at that oh-so-perfect streak! I want to reach 100%, then I’ll add more from lists. I don’t think I’ll ever run out of things to remember :)
Does it work?
For me, it definitely does work. Before Remembered, I’d write thoughts on Google Keep and they’d stay there until I finally scrolled down to dig them up. I love Keep, but it’s a notes app. I needed something more efficient, and Remembered is perfect for this.
Will it work for you? Only you can answer this question. If you find some interesting lists and think you could integrate Remembered into your life, give it a try. The trial period is cost-free!
Chrome extension
In fact, I love the tool so much that I’ve created a Chrome app! It works exactly like the website and it looks like Google Keep’s Chrome app. Give it a go, c’mon!
If you want to sign up, use my referral link. I won’t get anything, but you will get 25% off! You’re welcome. Also, the first 14 days are free.
Note: I just honestly enjoy the app. This review is not affiliated.
