Before we start, if you don’t already know, Apple has free software for producing .arobject references. This can be downloaded here, which also explains how it works and what it does.
This last part, is what I have broken down for you today.
Simple things
- ARKit carries the configuration to allow your app to scan objects on command.
- ARKit can export these as .arobjects allowing you to quickly create reference points.
- Reference objects create an origin which scenes can be mapped on.
Unfortunate things
- Reference Objects are not ‘objects’ which can be mapped from an .arobject.
- Reference objects must be reproduced to true scale as collada’s for them to ‘come to life’.
