Step One: Create a new project

Let’s begin by starting a new project on Maya. Please note that all screenshots apply to the July 2018 version of Maya.

Step Two: Create and adjust a plane for the image

If you’re interested, you can resize the image after its created using the Channel Box / Layer Editor menu on the RHS. There are many ways to do it, but I have just set the size to 25cm by 25cm.

If you want to change the unit of measurement, go to Preferences -> Settings and change the unit under Working Units. In the scenario below, I have changed it to meters and you can see it directly update on the menu on the RHS.

Step Three: Apply the image as a lambert material

Left click and drag down to select the Lambert Material.

In the Attribute Editor, select Color

Then Select File

Then Select the Image Name Folder and select your image from the pop up.

The image should then show up in the sample

Finally, press the number 6 to show the image.

Cheers,

Oscar
