  1. The star of the show — Director Gauri Shinde. Conceptualized and executed a brilliant concept that is so relevant to everyone, yet so under-explored. Secondly, it is very tough to generate heroism from something that is generally taken for granted. To be able to do all this and yet make an entertaining and commercially successful movie is nothing short of outstanding.
  2. Stellar, restrained Sridevi. The perfect way to make a ‘comeback’. Respecting her age and transitioning into a new stage in her on-screen image so gracefully. Commanded respect.
  3. Mehdi Nebbou, the actors who played Shashi’s husband, son, niece, teacher, classmates, sister — all brilliant. No known actors could have essayed these characters the way they did. Superb casting.
  4. Amit Trivedi’s music did it again. Different, appealing music!
  5. Certain scenes like the one where Sridevi accidentally drops the plate of laddoos deserve special mention. A situation that seems apparently small to the average viewer is portrayed to be of utmost relevance to the protagonist.
  6. While watching ‘English Vinglish’, you begin empathizing with the family member you always knew and loved but never totally understood — the mother/wife.
  7. Amitabh Bachchan, even in a small cameo, delights and amazes!
