Programmatic Diagrams

After deciding on making a children’s library I approached the design by first looking at the required square footage of each of the programs. The first diagram shows the different required programs in proportion to what was in the syllabus, and how I distributed them through out the plans of the building. The second graph shows how I divided up the required programs into specific programs needed for the children’s library, such as singular reading space, group study space, computer room, and playroom. The second floor, the toddler’s floor, contains the playroom because they don’t need space to study and need more interactive space. As the floors increase the age group also increases and there are more space for group and singular study space.

Plans

Each plan contain’s a circle that serves as it’s center. Each center is functions as a different programmatic purpose.

Center Programmatic Axon

First Floor Center: Main desk

Second Floor Center: Sitting pit

Third Floor: Computer Room

Fourth Floor: Stairs

Fifth Floor: Sitting Pit

Circles also played into architecture of the walls of the toddlers’ floor. Circles were carved into the walls to create sitting spaces.

Sections and Elevations

The circles also gave way to the facade which I wanted to be playful and would grab the attention of children. It is a two system facade with a screen wall and a separate curtain wall.
