MID REVIEW — ORGANIZATIONAL STRATEGY

The main idea of my project is splitting one volume into two. That allows me to create a public space under the smaller volume and bring people on the site by letting them cut the corner when walking along Grand or Chrystie streets.

I intend to use a void space between two buildings as a public study area by creating more bridges between the volumes and providing sitting areas for people to study in the outside space.

The bigger volume is a digital library, and the smaller volume is a library for physical books. The two volumes are connected with each other by bridges, that allow a fluid circulation through two separate buildings as if it was one whole.

The entrance is located on the first floor of the bigger volume, where the service desk is located. Here a person can find out in which volume he needs to go. The entrance area has a direct access to the smaller volume as well as to the subway on the underground level. There is a gallery located on the underground level to interest even more people and bring them inside.

The auditorium is located in the top floor of the bigger volume and is accessible from the smaller building. The rooftop of the smaller one is accessible as well and can be used as a space for screening videos by using the wall of the bigger volume as a surface for projection.
