MID REVIEW— ORGANIZATIONAL STRATEGY

My project is based on the idea of creating a Library for the collection, sequencing, and storage of DNA. The design originated from extracting shapes from overlapping hexagons and assigning them program. The program is then layered on top of each other in a sequence that allows for easy circulation. Additionally, the hexagonal shape is slightly rotated to orient the view to the adjacent parks. This, in turn, creates a space between the corner of the street and the building which has a more inviting feel. This diagonal wall is where the entrance is located

The first floor is where the public enters to give their samples. On the Christie St. side of the building there is a gated entrance for the staff to enter, allowing for less congestion in the front. The specialist have a separate entrance allowing them to continue on to the storage and research space. The public also has access to an auditorium on the second floor where they can attend talks and conferences to help educate them on DNA research. The third and fourth floor contain the DNA itself as well as service space for the staff. The fifth floor is a larger auditorium for researchers to hold conferences and talks about their research. The six floor the research space, and it is located at the top to allow for minimal distraction.
