NYC in the nuclear imaginary

Curator’s note:

Only a matter of days after the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, New York’s daily newspapers began imagining the scale of the damage on Manhattan. The above image was run on 7 August 1945, in PM.

Researchers in Australia and Japan have collated materials of Manhattan’s nuclear imaginary for the exhibition “Nuke York, New York”, which are both imaginative and terrifying.
