This project is in affiliation with JDx SafeFlight and is still in the design iteration process.

  • Team: Anna Avetisyan, Etaih van Herwerden, Joseph Kirkpatrick
  • My Functions: logo design, information architecture, sketching, low-medium fidelity wireframes, mobile app prototype, project management
Partially — research, personas, C&C analysis, feature prioritization, user flow, high-fidelity wireframes
  • Tools: Sketch, Photoshop, Illustrator, InVision, Lucidchart, Google Sheets, Google Slides, Google Docs
  • First Part Delivered: 2017

THE PROBLEM
People don’t realize the dangers that can go with flying drones. The number of drone users is increasing exponentially and nowadays Law Enforcement has no tools or technologies to enforce FAA rules.

THE GOALS

  • Create a seamless process for collecting information about illegal drone activities.
  • Develop a way to monitor & process illegal drone flights.
  • Create an intuitive desktop and mobile apps for Call-Takers & Dispatchers.
  • Create a seamless and intuitive app for Law Enforcement Officers.

PERSONAS
There are three main categories of people who will be using this app: Law Enforcement Officers, 911 Call-takers, dispatchers and firefighters.

FEATURE PRIORITIZATION
We conducted a feature prioritization to help us take all the information that we synthesized from our research and clarify what are the key features we needed in each screen for 911 dispatches in the office and the LEOs out in the field.

Feature prioritization helped to define exact necessary features for all categories of our users, for both the desktop and mobile apps. We then did a lot of sketching and ideation to make the structure of this complicated information as simple and intuitive as possible.

USER FLOW
After research, feature prioritization and information architecture we came up to this user flow which involves different users of both desktop and mobile apps.

DESIGN STUDIO & SKETCHES
Since this project had such a huge scope, the design studio helped us concentrate on building an MVP that would be the foundation of the JDx software. We did a lot of ideating on what the dispatchers and first responders would need in the platform.

Finally, multiple design studios and sketches led to our medium fidelity wireframes.

STYLE GUIDE
Based on the research and feedback, we came up to the following logo, color, and typeface solutions.

USER TESTING & FEEDBACK
We got this truly rewarding feedback after testing the solution with our top target users and it’s great to know that the solution met their expectations and can become a helpful tool for them.

NEXT STEPS
By following the agile design process our next steps would be to:

  • Develop a platform for firefighters to enable a TFR during a fire
  • Incorporate a finalized violation table for Call-Takers and LEOs
  • Do more usability testing of the desktop and mobile apps
  • Iterate the design and solutions
  • Test, validate, and proceed to development stage
