Here’s Why My Next Project Is Jurassic Park Fanfiction

There’s an idea I’ve had swirling around my head for a long time, but for some reason, I never see the franchise address it.

That is: What did Costa Ricans on the mainland experience while Jurassic Park was being built?

The park exists on Isla Nublar, which is a fictional place off the coast of Costa Rica. The country is mentioned a handful of times in the movies. I was excited to see a Costa Rican flag in one of the newer trailers, only to realize it was cut when I saw the movie in theaters.

I squealed with excitement when I first saw it. It’s just for a second, and the American friend I saw it with didn’t understand what I was reacting to. I just kept shouting “the flag! The flag!”

It’s here, flying on top of the boat the kids are on as they head toward the island…maybe from the Puntarenas ferry landing?

Costa Rica is mentioned heavily in the first book by Crichton. But he incorrectly mentioned the Costa Rican military. Costa Rica does not have a military. December 1st is the holiday…
