When it comes to extreme mental illness, the patient isn’t the only one subject to denial, I’ve learned.

He will outgrow it, he just needs tough love, he’s actually magical, he’s actually a genius, he just wants attention.

Denial can cause relatives to fly back and forth between two extremes: He’s the worst spoiled brat; he’s a superhuman genius.
