It Is An Honor To Be A Force Against Fascism.
I recently saw a TikTok about a woman saying how politics wasn’t always so divisive, and why can’t we just get along. It was ridiculous, and of course there were more comments than Likes, and I left the only comment I could think to leave:
It is an honor to be a force against fascism.
But the more I think about it, the more I think it will have to be my mantra in the coming months. People who voted for others to be dehumanized and deported and stripped of their rights will start to ask “why can’t we all just get along?” once their own rights and livelihoods are on the chopping block.
And I understand that being personally impacted might be the only way they’ll change their minds.
But hey, lady, my stance actually has nothing to do with you. Don’t flatter yourself. You may have voted how you did because you do hate me, a Latina woman, personally. You may have wanted bad things to happen to people you don’t even know. But it’s not personal on this side of the equation.
So no one is going to somehow appeal to my desire to “just get along”, because it is, truly, important that I be able to look back on my life and say I stood up for what is right…even if I wasn’t the perfect activist, or an activist 100% of the time, or donated to all the right causes.
