We Aren’t Getting An Apology From Conspiracy Theorists.
I know someone who had a psychotic break from reality. He believed a wild conspiracy where the whole world (including animals) was out to get him. He received treatment and no longer believes those things.
But he doesn’t NOT believe them. He doesn’t realize that those things weren’t happening before. They were happening then, but not now. Everyone was being weird back then. Then he went to the doctor, and now it’s not happening anymore.
But he doesn’t seem to make the connection between those “weird things” stopping, and his medication.
The point of this story?
For about a decade, we have seen many people give way to conspiracy and have little breaks from reality. If you’re like me, you cared about people and tried to pull them away from the grips of fear and anxiety. You tried to steer them away from certain news channels and wondered how someone could believe Covid was both a deadly government conspiracy AND no worse than a flu. You realized people you knew were using logic to actually distance themselves from logical conclusions.
They were using the desire to feel smart to invent a world where they could be right.
I’m now realizing how long it will take for those people to get better…and how they may…
